is an open-source astronomy simulation program (both Mac and PC) that can create a virtual view of the sky from any point and time on earth. It is an excellent tool for learning how the stars and planets move across the celestial sphere.

To make for an immersive experience, Stellarium comes with a number of default landscapes from around the world. However, other landscapes can be easily added. Below, you will find landscapes from around Western North Carolina and the southeast. Instructions for setting up Stellarium and adding these landscapes are provided below.  Please contact Forrest Charnock, Instructor of Physics, with any questions.
