Biography
<b>Allyson L. Brown, PhD, RN, CNE</b> is an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing
at 91女神 and serves as Program Director of the Master鈥檚 Entry
to Professional Nursing (MEPN) Program. She is committed to preparing the next generation
of nurses through innovative, student-centered education that promotes leadership,
clinical excellence, and service to rural communities.<br><br>Dr. Brown鈥檚 teaching
and scholarship focus centers on nursing education, program evaluation, leadership
development, and strategies to strengthen the rural health care workforce. Her work
emphasizes creative approaches to teaching and learning, with particular interest
in developing academic-practice partnerships and educational models that increase
access to nursing education for underserved populations.<br><br>As MEPN Program Director,
Dr. Brown leads curriculum development, accreditation and quality improvement initiatives,
student success efforts, and faculty collaboration. She is passionate about fostering
supportive learning environments that encourage professional growth, resilience, and
lifelong learning among nursing students.<br><br>Dr. Brown maintains active engagement
in scholarly and service activities related to nursing education and workforce development.
Her recent work has explored innovative pathways into nursing, creative pedagogical
approaches, and strategies for preparing practice-ready graduates to meet the complex
health needs of contemporary communities.<br><br>A dedicated educator and mentor,
Dr. Brown values collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. She is particularly

the unique health challenges of rural and underserved populations throughout Western
North Carolina and beyond.
Teaching Interests
Dr. Brown鈥檚 teaching interests focus on graduate nursing education, particularly the
preparation of Master鈥檚 Entry to the Profession of Nursing (MEPN) students. She is
committed to fostering professional role development, clinical judgment, and safe
patient care in prelicensure graduate nursing education. Guided by Western Carolina
University鈥檚 Boyer model of scholarship, her teaching emphasizes human-centered nursing
practice, compassionate care, leadership development, and the integration of scholarly
inquiry to advance nursing knowledge and practice. She is passionate about preparing
resilient, practice-ready nurses to meet the evolving health care needs of rural and
underserved communities.
Research Interests
Dr. Brown's scholarship focuses on advancing innovation in nursing education to strengthen
and diversify the nursing workforce, improve health equity, and address social drivers
of health and access to care. Guided by Boyer's model of scholarship, her work explores
educational pathways that expand opportunities for underrepresented and rural populations,
foster leadership development, and prepare practice-ready nurses equipped to meet
the complex needs of underserved communities. Through educational research, workforce
development initiatives, and community-engaged partnerships, she seeks to generate
evidence that supports a more accessible, equitable, and responsive healthcare system.
