Biography

David is an Instructor in the School of Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, and Business Law in the College of Business. His forty-year career as a Certified Financial Planning Professional^庐 supports his interest in the Personal Financial Planning track students at Western. He earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration in 2016 in anticipation of reducing his planning activities and now giving back to the profession.<br><br>David has lived in many parts of the country and moved to Asheville in 2021 from San Diego. He stays active in the financial planning community and industry through active membership in the Financial Planning Association, the national professional organization supporting CFP^庐s. He also maintains a consulting practice focused on helping financial advisors assist their clients with strategies for paying for healthcare in retirement, including Medicare insurance planning. He also is part owner of an insurance agency and a luxury travel agency.

Teaching Interests

David鈥檚 teaching interests lie in assisting students in understanding the financial world. He teaches Financial Institutions and Markets to convey the importance of the financial structures in the world economy. Regarding behavioral economics, he teaches a course that utilizes the concept of 鈥渉ow I can become a millionaire鈥� to assist students in understanding how irrationality can affect decision-making along with rational strategic planning.

Research Interests

David鈥檚 research interests include the application of behavioral economics to consumer behavior regarding financial planning, challenges in pricing intellectual property for planning purposes, reduction in perceived financial stress through financial coaching, and the potential application of artificial intelligence in financial planning.
